The lighthouse is a 4-storey steel frame structure with internal steel stairs, a concrete and stone foundation and a landscaped base with public areas. This reproduction of the existing Slate Island Lighthouse allows visitors to climb up internal stairs to an observation deck at the navigation light level. The tourist attraction is designed to pull the visitors off the highway, introducing them to the services of the newly re-developed commercial downtown core. The lighthouse is lit at night with efficient LED lighting, which provides a beacon for the new downtown. In its first summer of operation an incredible 3,000 visitors were logged by the automatic gate counter.
