Centre for Innovation & Excellence
The Teaching Commons: Centre for Innovation and Excellence in Learning was designed to advance scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching, learning, curriculum and educational technology practices within and across Lakehead University’s diverse disciplinary and cultural contexts.
FormStudio designed and managed construction of an environmentally, socially and economically responsible interior renovation of the 6,500sf, 5th floor of the Chancellor Paterson Library to meet the goals of the Teaching Commons. Design services required the application of guidelines, standards and policy initiatives such as barrier-free accessibility standards, office space guidelines, energy efficiency requirements and environmental initiatives.
This welcoming space for faculty, staff and students was designed to flexible and encourage active learning and collaborative areas, lighting, flooring, painting, new window coverings, workshop room, furniture, offices, classrooms, meeting rooms and the incorporation of new technology.
