Issam (Sam) Shukor Senior Architect

OAA, AAA, AIBC, MAA, RIBA

Issam (Sam) A. Shukor is a senior design architect with over 25 years of professional experience working on residential, multi-family, mixed-use, institutional, industrial, retail, and commercial projects across Ontario and other Canadian jurisdictions. He is a licensed architect (OAA, AAA, AIBC, MAA, RIBA) and a Certified Passive House Designer (CPHD), holding a Master of Building Science degree (MBS) with a strong background in sustainable and energy-efficient building design.

Sam’s professional experience includes early-phase design, schematic development, zoning and code analysis, and coordination of multi-disciplinary consultant teams. He has contributed to affordable housing, low-rise and mid-rise multi-family developments, and complex projects involving rezoning processes and municipal approvals. His work emphasizes clear design concepts, regulatory compliance, constructability, and alignment with client objectives.

Throughout his career, Sam has held senior architectural and design roles in multiple firms, including a period of practice as a principal architect. He has been involved in mentoring junior staff, reviewing design and construction documentation, and supporting project delivery from schematic design through construction administration and close-out.

In parallel with professional practice, Sam is a Doctor of Design (DDes) candidate at the University of Calgary. His academic work builds on his professional background in building science and sustainability, with a particular interest in place-making through community building, regenerative design, and alternative practice models that strengthen social, environmental, and cultural value. He is also the author of the best-selling book *Revitalize, Reengage, Regenerate* (2025), which reflects his long-standing commitment to revitalization, adaptive reuse, and people-centered approaches to design and development.
