FORM was retained by Infrastructure Ontario in the summer of 2014 to complete the design for the site development of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) existing Thunder Bay Fire Management Headquarters, located on Arthur Street adjacent to the Thunder Bay International Airport. Extensive renovations and two large additions to the 51,000sf main building, as well as multiple outbuildings and service areas were completed to increase the operational efficiency of the Headquarters. The scope of the project includes the improvement of the functional capability of the main building, selected ancillary buildings and the surrounding site to meet contemporary fire management practices, to improve work and traffic flows and to create a high quality work environment for employees.
Extensive renovations to the entire facility and two new additions were built to accommodate new administration offices, training rooms, crew lounge, full kitchen, equipment storage, accessible bathrooms/showers/laundry facilities, staff locker rooms, pilot sleeping quarters. The project also included the construction of a new aviation building, fuel storage building, heli-spares building, tent drying building and new heli-pads.
