Flexible Design & Function for Modern Theatre Space
The Shuniah Lecture Theatre at Confederation College was a complete removal
and replacement of interior walls, furniture, seating and fi nishes. The 3,038sf
theatre has numerous uses varying from lecture classes, theatrical performances,
and movie production and fi lming. The existing lecture theatre required the removal
of hazardous materials, and the replacement of old lighting and A/V technology in
order to provide a more modern theatre experience.
The project also included a 115sf addition to allow for barrier-free access by adding
a new corridor. There were a number of challenges to upgrade the space, which
included the coordination with Audio-Visual suppliers, theatrical equipment
suppliers, seating providers, and acoustics designers to ensure the end-product
provided the correct balance in design and function for each use required by the
theatre space.
Our design team expanded their knowledge of theatre spaces and were able to
create a modern, multi-purpose showcase space for the College.
